Changelog analytics: see who reads your releases

Short answerShipnoted's changelog analytics shows, for every release, how many people read it on the page and in your app, how many emailed subscribers clicked through, how the in-app announcement did, and how people reacted. Nobody is identified by name or email address.

What you can see#

  • Page reads and widget reads. Who opened the release page, and who opened it from inside your app.
  • Email results. How many subscribers each release was emailed to, how many opened it, and how many clicked through. Clicks are the number to trust: many mail apps load images automatically, so opens are approximate and labelled that way.
  • In-app announcements. How many people saw an announcement, how many opened it and how many dismissed it.
  • Reactions and answered requests. Emoji reactions, and how many requests each release closed.
  • By type of change. Whether New, Improved or Fixed entries are the ones that get read.
  • In plain words. A few sentences at the top of the page: which release reached the most people, your email click rate, and the releases that were emailed but never clicked.

Private by design#

Each email carries a random id for the reader, not their address, and a signature so the numbers cannot be padded. The click link only ever goes to the release's own page. You can switch email tracking off in Settings, and then emails have no image and plain links. See privacy.

Export#

Every figure exports to CSV for the last 7, 30 or 90 days.

What it costs#

Changelog analytics is part of every plan, including Free.

Questions and answers

How do I see who reads my changelog?
Open Changelog analytics in the dashboard. It shows page reads, reads from inside your app, email opens and clicks, reactions and announcement results for each release.
Can I track email opens and clicks on release emails?
Yes. Release emails include a one-pixel image for opens and a link that counts clicks. Opens are approximate because many mail apps load images automatically, so treat clicks as the reliable number.
Does tracking identify my subscribers?
No. Each reader gets a random id that is not their email address, and the dashboard shows counts only. You can turn email tracking off in Settings.
Can I export the numbers?
Yes. Every release's figures export to CSV for the last 7, 30 or 90 days.
Is changelog analytics free?
Yes. It is included in every plan, including the Free plan.
