Targeted in-app announcements

Short answerShipnoted can announce a release inside your app as a popup, a banner across the top or a centred modal. You choose the customer group, the pages it appears on and when it stops, each visitor sees it once, and you see how many opened or dismissed it.

How it works#

Tick Announce it in your app on a release. The widget shows it once to each visitor, in the style you pick:

  • Popup: a small card beside the launcher.
  • Banner: a bar across the top of the page.
  • Modal: a centred card for something that matters.

Aim it#

  • A group. Only customers on a plan, or in a beta, using the attributes in the signed user token your app sends. A release aimed at a group stays off the public changelog, feeds and the subscriber email.
  • Pages. Show it only on /billing, or on a section such as /settings/*. Empty means every page.
  • An end date. After it passes, the announcement stops showing even to people who have not seen it.

Measure it#

Every announcement counts how many people saw it, opened it and dismissed it, next to the release's page reads and email clicks in changelog analytics.

Good manners built in#

Each visitor sees an announcement once. Closing it, or opening it, marks it seen. Escape closes a modal, focus moves into it, and it respects reduced-motion settings.

What it costs#

Announcements work on every plan. Aiming them at a group needs Pro, because that uses verified users.

Questions and answers

How do I show a popup for a new feature in my app?
Add the Shipnoted widget script tag to your app, then tick Announce it in your app on a release. The widget shows it once to each visitor as a popup, banner or modal.
Can I show an announcement only on certain pages?
Yes. List the paths, such as /billing or /settings/*, and the announcement appears only there. Leave the list empty to show it everywhere.
Can I announce a feature to only some customers?
Yes, on Pro and Team. Aim the release at a group such as plan:pro or beta:true, using the attributes your server signs into the user token.
Will users see the same announcement again?
No. Each visitor sees an announcement once; opening or dismissing it marks it seen. You can also set an end date after which it stops showing.
Can I see how an announcement performed?
Yes. Changelog analytics counts how many people saw, opened and dismissed each announcement.
