An in-app What's New widget and feedback panel
Short answerShipnoted's widget is a single script tag that adds a What's New button to your app, with an unread dot, a panel of recent releases and a way for users to suggest and vote on ideas. It is about 6 KB, has no dependencies, and does not touch your CSS.
What it does#
- What's New. A button with a dot when something is unread, and a panel of recent releases. A release can be marked to pop up for people it matters to.
- Ideas. Users suggest an idea, attach a screenshot they can draw on, and vote on existing requests, without leaving your app.
- Right people. Pass the signed-in customer's identity (signed on your server) and you get revenue-weighted votes and segments, and the widget shows releases aimed at that customer's group.

Questions and answers
- How do I add a What's New widget to my app?
- Add one script tag with your project slug to your pages. It adds a What's New button with an unread dot. For React apps you can use the headless hooks or the shadcn components instead.
- How big is the widget?
- About 6 KB gzipped with no dependencies. It runs in a shadow root, so it does not affect your CSS and your CSS does not affect it.
- Can users submit feedback from inside my app?
- Yes. The widget takes ideas, lets people draw on a screenshot, and shows existing requests to vote on, so people do not post duplicates.
- Can I use my own button to open the widget?
- Yes. The widget can be opened from any button of your own, and the unread state is available to it.
- Does it work with React and Next.js?
- Yes. There are quickstarts for Next.js, Remix and Vite, a set of headless React hooks, and shadcn components you copy into your repository.
